I hope you’re having a lovely day! Welcome to the Iowa Writers’ House! I think it’s wonderful that you’re the volunteer direction of the Ankeny Writers Workshop. It’s great to see that other communities are building literary groups for people who might not have support and guidance. Thank you for all you are doing and for helping so many people. Maybe one of these days the IWH and Ankeny Writers Workshop can do an event together!
As a fiction writer, you may be interested in our Violet Realm (sci-fi/fantasy) and Great Green Room (YA/Children’s lit) Rooms. More information is listed below. We will have more workshops this summer and fall so keep an eye out for newsletters!
Workshops: The IWH hosts monthly workshops! Here is one available in June that may interest the teens you know. You can find future workshops here for all ages.
An Adventure in Writing: Using History’s Mysteries to Inspire Fiction: A Workshop for Teens Ages 12-16
June 20-24, 2-5pm
In this week long workshop, young writers will explore an unsolved Iowa mystery and use the facts of the case to inspire their own fictional tales. Author and teacher Staci Mercado takes students through the process that created Seeking Signs, the 2013 Midwest Book Award winner and a story of historical fiction based on the death of Minnie Seamer in Clinton County.
The Iowa Writers’ House is a community literary organization dedicated to creating a space
